Wild

I think the key to really good landscape photography is to keep it simple. As in stark, with clean lines, and a minimum of fine detail, with one clear dominant feature to focus on. This photo violates all of those tenets, and yet, I like it. That certainly doesn’t mean you will, but I do. And please, click on the image to view it large.

This is basically a swamp, yet look at the color! This place is alive. There is so much to take in, that you can easily get lost, or possibly lose interest. This certainly isn’t a photo which will work for everyone, but I like it enough to share it, in the hope that someone else out there may enjoy it as well.

I purposefully saturated the colors, and even introduced a bit of diffused blur, in order to emphasize the natural vibrancy of this spot. It becomes almost an abstraction, not quite real, but entirely valid. I cropped the upper portion of the original image, as the empty branches of the trees against the blue sky detracted from the overall complexity of the rest of the scene. What is left is simply the reflection of sky amidst the structured chaos of the abundant plant life concentrated here.

Perhaps I’m reading too much into this image, but sometimes you just have to celebrate this mess we call life.

Enjoy the photo, and have a great day!
